Failing to mobilise street power, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has changed the schedule of its ongoing long march, announcing a new plan for the next four days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to PTI Provincial General Secretary Ali Asghar Khan, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will lead the march through different districts and address party workers and supporters along the way.
Under the revised schedule, the march will reach Peshawar from Khyber on Thursday night, October 8. The chief minister is also expected to address gatherings at different locations in Peshawar before staying overnight in the city.
On October 9, the march will move to Charsadda, where participants will spend the night. The convoy will then travel to Mardan on October 10 before heading to Swabi on October 11.
PTI leaders will decide and announce the next phase of the march after reaching Swabi.
Ali Asghar Khan has directed party organisations, elected representatives and workers across the districts to make arrangements for the march and ensure public participation.
Long march affects educational activities
Meanwhile, the long march has also affected educational activities in parts of Peshawar.
According to education department sources, some public and private schools along the expected march route have reportedly been closed as a security precaution. Schools outside the route are operating as usual.
Earlier, educational boards in Peshawar, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan also announced the postponement of examinations due to the long march and related security concerns.
The revised schedule means that the march will continue through several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until at least October 11, with its next destination to be decided in Swabi.
