Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has been taken into custody, according to a spokesperson for the opposition alliance. Akhwanzada Hussain Yousafzai, spokesperson for the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), confirmed the arrest.
According to Yousafzai, Salman Akram Raja had travelled to Kotli Sattian to attend the funeral of Ishtiaq Satti and was arrested within the jurisdiction of Nilore Police Station while returning. He said that Raja was arrested within the jurisdiction of Nilore Police Station after travelling to Kotli Sattian.
Shaukat Basra, PTI Deputy Secretary General and Information Secretary Punjab, in a message on X, stated that party ticket holders and officials accompanying Salman Akram Raja to attend the funeral of martyred Ejaz Satti in Kotli Sattian were also being held in illegal custody at Nilore Police Station.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan strongly condemned the detention of Salman Akram Raja and called for his immediate release.
In a statement, Gohar said Raja had been held at a police station for the past two hours. He claimed that around 700 PTI workers had been arrested over the past few days and that arrest warrants had been issued for members of the National and Provincial Assemblies. “This is all illegal; this must end now,” Gohar said.
