PTI leadership leaves after making TikTok videos outside Adiala

Web desk: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders left the protest site outside Adiala Jail after recording TikTok videos, triggering anger among party workers on Tuesday.

PTI workers remained gathered outside Adiala from morning till night in support of their leadership, but only a few leaders were present, including Salman Akram Raja and Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Moeen Qureshi.

In the cold weather, many workers expressed disappointment over the behaviour of party leaders. They said the leaders recorded TikTok videos for personal publicity and then left, abandoning the workers at the protest site.

The PTI workers also misbehaved with and threatened a journalist who attempted to stop them from chanting slogans against the Pakistan Army.

Earlier, former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan, Uzma Khanum, and Noreen Niazi staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail after being denied permission to meet him.

The protest took place at the Factory Checkpost, where a large number of PTI workers gathered and vowed to continue their demonstration until access to Khan was granted.

Police stopped Khan’s sisters, along with PTI workers, from moving towards the jail.

Security around Adiala Jail was tightened, with Section 144 imposed, heavy police deployment on access routes, anti-riot barriers placed at Gorakhpur, and water cannons stationed outside Gate 5.

PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja later joined the sit-in. Speaking to the media at the Factory Checkpost, he said that standing in solidarity with Imran Khan’s family should not be restricted to members of parliament alone.

Trends not real but propaganda: Talal Chaudhry

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Monday said during a press conference that social media accounts used to generate trends in support of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were also being used by terrorist organisations.

Talal Chaudhry also warned of a coordinated digital campaign against national institutions during the press conference.

Chaudhry said that the terrorist organisations were actively exploiting social media platforms. He further added that “certain elements” were deliberately trying to undermine Pakistan’s national security through organised online activity.

“Money is provided on social media to run all trends, and the information about those who are doing propaganda on social media has been collected,” he warned

He added that the government firmly believes in freedom of expression. However, no compromise would be made on national sovereignty and state institutions.
