The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz withdraw her recent remarks and apologise to the nation.
The demand was made during a joint meeting of the PTI Political Committee and Core Committee, which discussed the country’s political situation and the party’s ongoing political and public outreach campaign.
According to a statement issued by PTI, the meeting also reviewed the ongoing street movement in Sindh and the crackdown against party workers. The participants appreciated the movement being carried out in Sindh under the leadership of Sohail Afridi.
The health of PTI founder Imran Khan was also discussed in detail. The party described his health as an extremely important matter requiring immediate attention and demanded that he be shifted to a hospital for proper medical examination and treatment.
The meeting also called for the contempt of court petition filed in the Supreme Court to be fixed for hearing.
PTI expressed serious concern and condemnation over Maryam Nawaz’s recent remarks, demanding that she retract her statements and apologise to the nation.
The meeting further voiced concern over the arrests of PTI workers and political leaders.
Earlier, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s statement about terrorism from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab had been taken out of context, the private media outlet reported.
Azma Bukhari also criticised the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, for demanding an apology for a chauvinist statement by the CM Punjab. Azma Bukhari said, “The KP government always disrespected Pashtuns for not providing better facilities, including education and infrastructure in the province.”
Azma Bukhari also asked, “In which capacity is Sohail Afridi demanding an apology?”
Earlier, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz said while speaking to journalists, “Unfortunately, I feel less threatened by my neighbouring country but more threatened by my neighbouring province as terrorism enters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab.”
