Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha has been booked in an alleged electricity theft case in Bhera city of Sargodha district, police said on Saturday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), case No. 462 was registered at Bhera Police Station under Section 462-I of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which relates to theft of electric power and tampering with electricity meters used by domestic consumers.
The case was registered on the complaint of Muhammad Atif Zia, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO)’s Sardar Pur Noon Sub-Division.
The FIR said a FESCO task force inspected an electricity meter installed at the premises of a consumer identified as Naeem Haider after finding it suspicious. The meter was removed and sent to the FESCO laboratory in Sargodha for examination.
The Executive Engineer (XEN) of FESCO’s Metering and Testing (M&T) department in Sargodha allegedly found signs of tampering during the examination, according to the FIR.
The report said the seals on both sides of the meter had been broken and its body had been opened. It further stated that an additional wire had been installed and the meter’s terminal had been shunted, allowing electricity to be consumed directly.
Based on the inspection and laboratory findings, the FESCO official requested registration of a criminal case against the consumer under Section 462-I of the PPC, the FIR stated.
