Punjab has officially introduced a digital examination system across its education boards.
This marks a major change in how students’ answer sheets are checked and examination results are prepared.
The new e-sheet system was launched on Friday (today). It aims to improve transparency, reduce marking errors and speed up the examination process.
Muzammil Mahmood, Chairman of Punjab’s Task Force on Examinations and a member of the Chief Minister’s Advisory Committee on Education, officially launched the system.
Mahmood said the technology would help stop students from taking exams under someone else’s identity. It would also reduce fake attendance records.
He added that the system would reduce the use of traditional paper-based examination methods.
Reportedly, around 50,000 students took their biology examination using the new e-sheet system.
This was the first major use of the technology across Punjab’s education boards.
Students write their answers on specially designed sheets. These sheets are then scanned and uploaded to a digital platform.
Examiners can check the scanned papers on computer screens instead of using physical answer books.
Officials said online marking would also help education boards announce results much faster than the traditional system.
Digital exams to expand across Punjab
Mahmood announced that the government plans to introduce e-sheets for all examination subjects across Punjab next year.
Earlier, the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education selected biology, chemistry, computer science and statistics for the first phase of digital marking.
The board also arranged training sessions for teachers, examination staff and educational institutions to explain the new system.
These sessions took place in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.
Under the digital marking system, qualified examiners will continue to check students’ written answers. However, they will now complete the marking process electronically.
