The Punjab government has approved a new system to recruit doctors and medical specialists for healthcare facilities across the province on Friday. The purpose of the new policy is to make the hiring process more transparent and based on merit.
How will the recruitment be done?
Under the new policy, special selection committees will recruit doctors and specialists for newly established health centres.
All BS-17 and above medical positions will be filled through these committees. Officials said the new system will help ensure appointments that are fair and based on merit.
The government has also approved the procedure for hiring doctors and specialists on a contract basis for new health centres.
Appointments will only be made after the selection committees recommend suitable candidates.
According to the approved policy, the Executive Director, Principal or Head of the relevant institution will lead the selection committee.
The committees will also include commissioners, senior professors and experienced government officials to make sure the recruitment process is fair.
Funds approved for recruitment
The Punjab government’s Regulation Wing has approved the Health Department’s proposal to implement the new hiring system.
The Finance Department has also confirmed that the required funds for these appointments will be provided through the department’s internal budget.
Canada introduces 14-day work permit
Canada recently announced a faster work permit process for eligible foreign trained doctors.
The new system will allow some applications to be processed in just 14 days. This means that Pakistani doctors who qualify can now get their Canadian work permit much faster.
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the faster process is available for doctors who are nominated by a Canadian province or territory through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The 14-day timeline only applies to the work permit application. But it does not mean permanent residence will also be approved within 14 days.
