The Punjab government has extended its ban on flying drones in outdoor areas across the province for another 30 days. The decision has been taken due to security concerns.
According to the Punjab Home Department, the restriction has been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Flying drones in open and outdoor spaces will remain prohibited throughout Punjab for the next 30 days, under the latest orders.
However, the government has allowed some exceptions to the restriction.
Where drone use will be allowed
- Small drones can be used at indoor events held in halls and marquees
- Intelligence agencies are exempt from the restriction
- Law enforcement agencies can continue to operate drones when required
- Drones can be used for agricultural purposes after written approval
- Drone use for irrigation activities may also be permitted
- Researchers can use drones after receiving the required permission
For agriculture, irrigation and research activities, users will first need written permission from the district-level Safe Drone Usage Committee.
The Punjab Home Department said drone operations for these purposes will only be considered exempt from the ban once the committee has provided written approval.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said the government’s main priorities are public safety, maintaining law and order, and protecting property.
Authorities have therefore been instructed to closely monitor the implementation of the restriction.
Police and local administrations across Punjab have also been directed to ensure that the latest orders are strictly followed during the 30-day period.
