Punjab expands interest-free housing scheme loans

The Punjab government has announced that interest-free housing loans will soon be extended to an additional 12,000 families under the Punjab’s flagship housing initiative “Apni Chat, Apna Ghar’ program.

Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin stated that the provincial government has so far disbursed over Rs 191 billion in interest-free loans to low-income families to support the construction of their own homes.

The update came during a meeting between the provincial minister and DG Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency Sikandar Zeeshan, where it was revealed that 135,410 families have already received financial assistance under the scheme.

Officials said the initiative is progressing under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aiming to provide affordable housing to deserving and low-income households across the province.

Construction of more than 91,000 houses completed

The construction of more than 91,000 houses has been completed under the scheme, while 42,000 houses are currently under construction and are expected to be completed during the current financial year.

Officials stated that interest-free loans will soon be extended to 12,000 more families. They added that the popularity of the scheme can be seen from the fact that more than 1.17 million people have applied so far.

The financial discipline of the program is evident as more than Rs. 10 billion has been collected in monthly instalments, reflecting timely loan repayments and the sustainability of the initiative.

Bilal Yasin said that the main objective of the “Apni Chat, Apna Ghar’ program is to provide affordable housing to underprivileged sections of society. The government is ensuring transparency and making efforts to include as many deserving people as possible in the scheme.
