Punjab govt committed to promoting interfaith harmony across province

Punjab Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique, has stated that the Punjab government is actively working to foster interfaith and inter-Muslim harmony throughout the province, in accordance with the vision set forth by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

He made these comments on Saturday during a meeting with a delegation from the Pakistan Ulema Council, led by Chairman Maulana Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, as part of the ongoing consultations with scholars at the Home Department Punjab.

The meeting focused on the law and order situation and the initiatives aimed at improving unity among Muslims.

The Minister noted that, following the Chief Minister’s directives, discussions are being held with prominent scholars from various schools of thought.

He emphasised that scholars play a crucial role in fostering peace, tolerance, and brotherhood within society, and that the provincial government is committed to implementing serious and effective measures to ensure enduring peace.

Secretary Home, Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, mentioned that the process of reforming madrasas is being finalised with the consultation and full cooperation of religious scholars.

He also indicated that the review of all applications concerning sacrificial skins is being completed prior to Eid ul Azha, and all districts have been instructed to ensure a merit-based and timely processing of these applications.

Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Maulana Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, expressed appreciation for the Punjab government‘s initiatives to promote unity among Muslims.

He remarked that resolving issues through dialogue and mutual consultation is the only assurance of social stability and underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration to foster religious harmony and tolerance.
