punjab school new timings

The Punjab School Education Department has announced new timings for government schools across the province, which will take effect from January 19 and remain in place until April 15, 2026.

The changes apply to both single-shift and double-shift schools and are part of an effort to adjust schedules during the winter period, according to an official notification.

New shifts

Under the new arrangement, students in single-shift schools will attend classes from 10:00am to 2:15pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, teaching hours will be shorter, running from 10:00am to 12:30pm.

For schools operating on a double-shift system, the morning shift will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm, while the afternoon shift will begin at 2:15pm and end at 4:45pm.

Teachers attendance compulsory

Preparation, training activities and curricular preparation have been included in the hours from Monday to Thursday for teachers.

According to the notification, it has been made mandatory for teachers to participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD), training and curricular activities.

Moreover, the attendance of teachers on ‘Alternate Saturday’ will also be mandatory.

Officials said that the revised timings are aimed at improving academic outcomes for students while giving teachers more structured time for lesson planning and training.

The department believes this approach will help raise the overall quality of education in government schools.

The announcement is likely to affect millions of students and teachers across Punjab. Parents and school staff are expected to adjust routines accordingly as the new schedule comes into force later this month.

The department has said schools must ensure full compliance with the revised timings during the notified period.
