Punjab to get faster internet

The province of Punjab to get faster internet through satellite internet service.

While speaking at a leadership summit in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister’s Senior Adviser Senator Anusha Rahman said Punjab is launching a “Connect the Unconnected” mission.

She said that this satellite internet service will help connect villages, schools, colleges, and hospitals across the province.

According to her, the provincial government will soon begin providing internet through satellite technology in the public sector. She added that the provincial IT Department is already working on modern connectivity projects.

Rahman also said the government plans to connect 6 million young people with modern technology over the next four years.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier this year, it was reported that Punjab would become the first province where citizens would benefit from broadband services through Pakistan’s own satellite.

The report said that Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz is utilising all available resources to fulfill her commitment to empowering skilled youth through the use of high-speed technology and by providing dignified employment opportunities.

“SUPARCO and NTC presented a joint proposal to Senator Anusha Rehman, under which satellite-based broadband services will be extended to remote areas of Punjab. For this purpose, SUPARCO and NTC will establish two demonstration stations in North and South Punjab within the next two weeks. Following successful testing, satellite-based broadband services will be rolled out in remote areas of Punjab within the next six months”, the report added.

Prior to these developments, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja had announced that Starlink services were expected to become operational in Pakistan by November–December 2025. However, the plan has now been put on hold.
