Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held separate talks with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Kuwait to discuss efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Jordan’s Ayman Safadi and Kuwait’s Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s support for efforts to de-escalate tensions.
The leaders also discussed the need for “all parties to adhere to dialogue and diplomacy” and to commit to the memorandum of understanding signed on June 20, which will ensure free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and regional stability.
Earlier, Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasised “the necessity of prioritising dialogue to de-escalate tensions and the importance of exerting all possible efforts to achieve a truce, which paves the way for diplomatic solutions”.
The crown prince stressed that diplomatic solutions should “yield positive results for preserving the security and stability of the region and prevent it from being drawn into a wider conflict”.
On Saturday, President Trump said that he had cancelled a planned large-scale military attack on Iran, claiming that the “perimeters of a deal” have been agreed upon.
