Rain in various areas of Karachi has broken the summer spell within the city.

The residents in several parts of Karachi experienced light rain late at night on June 15.

The rainfall was reported in a number of neighbourhoods, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, University Road and Sohrab Goth, where intermittent drizzle continued under cloudy conditions.

Heavier showers were also recorded along Abul Hasan Isphani Road, Rashid Minhas Road and nearby areas, extending rainfall activity across additional parts of Pakistan’s largest city.

The rain comes as weather patterns across the country remain influenced by a seasonal low-pressure system over northern Balochistan and surrounding regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The department said a westerly weather system was affecting the upper parts of the country, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea were moving into central and southern areas.

Although most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain hot and dry, forecasters have predicted dust storms and thunderstorms in parts of central Punjab, the Potohar region and southern Balochistan, including Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar and Kech.

The PMD also said isolated rain, wind and thunderstorm activity could occur in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas during the forecast period.

Karachi, which has endured high temperatures and humid conditions in recent weeks, often experiences brief spells of rain during seasonal weather transitions.

For many residents, Sunday night’s showers brought temporary relief from the summer heat, though meteorologists say hot conditions are likely to continue across much of the country in the coming days.
