Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala Road project progresses rapidly, 60% work completed

The construction of the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala (RMK) Road project is moving ahead at a fast pace, with 60 percent of the work completed and the remaining construction underway.

Officials briefed Punjab Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth on the project’s progress during his visit to the site.

During the visit, the minister inspected more than 31 kilometers of the under-construction road to review the project’s pace, quality, and overall progress. He was accompanied by Secretary Communications and Works Raja Jahangir Anwar, the chief engineer, Executive Engineer (XEN), and other senior officials.

During a briefing, officials informed the minister that the overall physical progress on the project had reached 60 per cent, while the remaining work was progressing at an accelerated pace. Due to the ongoing repair work on RMK road and the Jhikka Gali remodeling project, traffic flow may be affected at some places, officials added.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharat directed the concerned authorities to ensure the project is completed by August, stressing that the deadline must be met so the public and tourists can benefit from improved travel facilities as soon as possible.

He said the completion of the RMK Road project would enhance connectivity to Murree and its surrounding areas, boost tourism, and strengthen the local economy. The minister also instructed officials to maintain high construction standards and ensure that no compromise is made on the quality of the work.

The minister said the timely completion of the project would ensure safe, efficient, and modern travel facilities for both tourists and local residents. He appreciated the efforts of the highways team involved in the project and praised their dedication to meeting construction targets.

He directed officials to maintain the current pace of work while ensuring strict compliance with engineering standards, reiterating that no compromise would be made on the quality of construction.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharat said the project would play a key role in improving connectivity to Murree and its surrounding rural areas, boosting tourism, supporting socioeconomic development, and strengthening regional links.

Meanwhile thee City Traffic Police Murree has urged citizens and tourists to strictly follow traffic rules, maintain lane discipline, stay within their designated lanes, and avoid double-lane driving, unnecessary overtaking, and driving against the flow of traffic.

A traffic police spokesperson appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure smooth traffic flow, especially during busy periods.
