An evidence based traffic enforcement system has been introduced in Rawalpindi for the first time under which all challans will be issued with video proof to ensure transparency in enforcement actions, according to the traffic police.
A spokesperson for the traffic police said video recordings of traffic violations will be securely stored and verifiable. The system will also allow on the spot verification of citizens’ CNICs, driving licenses and FIR related records.
In addition, authorities will be able to instantly check vehicle ownership details, fitness certificates and route permits.
Under the new system, digital action will not only be taken against traffic violations but also against encroachments and environmental violations. Through an integrated mechanism, officials will also have access to e-challans, FIR status and criminal records.
Citizens will receive complete details of traffic violations through QR codes, enabling quick and easy access to information.
Farhan Aslam said that action based on digital evidence will improve transparency and help ensure impartial enforcement of the law. He added that the implementation of “One App” will improve traffic discipline and promote safer travel on roads.

Driving licence system becomes completely paperless
In another development, Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has taken a major step to modernise the licensing system by making the Islamabad Traffic Police licensing process completely paperless.
IG Islamabad formally inaugurated the paperless licensing system. Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and other traffic officials were also present on the occasion.
The IG reviewed all paperless counters and issued directives regarding the new system. Speaking at the event, he said the initiative has been introduced to facilitate citizens and save their valuable time.
Previously, applicants had to fill out medical forms, attach photographs, and submit multiple documents. Now, citizens no longer need to bring any documents, photocopies, or photos.
He further stated that the entire process from medical examination to licence issuance has now been made fully paperless. He appreciated the Chief Traffic Officer and his team for completing the project in a short period of time.
The IG also announced that the licensing fee system will soon be digitised. Citizens will now only need to bring their national identity card to obtain a driving licence from Islamabad Traffic Police.
