Residents of Islamabad, Lahore and other cities in Punjab have reported load-shedding and power outages since Sunday.
The power outage issue was also highlighted on social media, where many citizens took to online platforms to inquire about and complain about the disruptions.
An X user, who goes by the handle @Pathloyaar, wrote: “Why is so much load-shedding happening over the last couple of days?”
“Thand bht zaida hai isliye Lahore ko restart karnay ki koshish ho rahi hai #loadshedding,” wrote another user on a lighter note.
The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has responded to citizens’ concerns regarding the unannounced load-shedding.
“Regarding the ongoing power load management in the IESCO region, the IESCO administration has already informed its valued consumers through various forums that, due to technical reasons and a reduction in power generation, IESCO is not being provided an electricity quota in line with demand. As a result, load management of varying durations is being carried out across the IESCO region,” the power supplier wrote in a post on X.
“As soon as the electricity quota becomes available in line with demand, normal power supply will be restored. Consumers may contact the numbers mentioned on their bills or call the helpline number 118 for further information,” it added.
However, there has been no official announcement by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) regarding load-shedding.
As of now, neither LESCO nor IESCO has shared any load-shedding schedule for residents of Lahore and Islamabad.
Separately, a gas crisis has hit Karachi, as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is facing a shortfall of around 45 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD).
