‘Resident Evil: Veronica’ is a remake of the 2000 game ‘Code: Veronica’ and will be launched by Capcom in 2027.
The original ‘Resident Evil: Code Veronica’ occurred three months after the events of 1998’s ‘Resident Evil 2’ and at the same time as 1999’s ‘Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.’
The plot centers on Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield as they attempt to survive a viral outbreak on a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean and at a research facility in Antarctica.
The announcement for ‘Resident Evil: Veronica’ was made during the Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday, which was live-streamed from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
It was one of the most exciting reveals, alongside Paramount Games Studio’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.‘
This remake is said to use the RE Engine, which has been used for previous remakes in the series.
Capcom is promoting a modern control scheme, with gameplay updated to align with current survival horror standards.
Resident Evil: Veronica story
The narrative follows Claire Redfield, who is captured by the Umbrella Corporation while investigating her brother Chris. Imprisoned on Rockfort Island, she confronts a new biological outbreak and hostile facilities.
The action then moves to Antarctica, featuring the return of important characters from the series, including Albert Wesker.
This new version aims to maintain the essential story elements of Code Veronica while refreshing the writing and presentation to feel more modern.
The trailer from the Summer Game Fest suggested a more modern presentation, with an immersive camera and photorealistic visuals, all while keeping the original game’s core aspects: exploration, tension, resource management, and combat against infected creatures.
