Lahore Traffic Police have warned drivers that they could face criminal cases if they are caught driving with a suspended licence, as authorities step up action against serious road traffic offences.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the licences of 146 drivers involved in fatal and serious accidents have already been suspended.
Under the latest measures, the licence of any driver found responsible for a fatal or serious non-fatal accident will be suspended. In cases involving irresponsible driving, the suspension will remain in place for at least one year, according to the traffic police.
Drivers involved in fatal accidents could also face further legal action. However, licence suspensions in fatal accident cases will be subject to court orders.
Mr Shirazi said irresponsible driving would not be tolerated and that traffic violations would be dealt with under a zero-tolerance policy.
He said protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the department’s top priority, adding that strict enforcement would continue to reduce accidents and improve road safety.
Rawalpindi traffic plan issued as construction begins on Peshawar Road
The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has issued a traffic diversion plan as construction work begins on Main Peshawar Road from September 8, 2026.
According to the traffic plan, diversions will be implemented around the working areas of Qasim Market, Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross on Main Peshawar Road.
The diversion plan will come into effect from Tuesday, September 8, as the construction project formally begins.
Citizens have been advised to use alternative routes during their commute and follow instructions issued by traffic police to avoid inconvenience.
The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi said its personnel will remain deployed in the field to facilitate commuters and ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the construction work.
Construction has begun on two major underpass projects on Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi as authorities work to ease traffic congestion and create a wider signal-free corridor.
The Rs8 billion project, being carried out by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), includes underpasses at Race Course Park and Charing Cross.
The officials said that the work will be completed within two to three months, with the project targeted for completion before the end of the year.
