Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has closed the road from Rawal Dam Chowk towards Serena Hotel from November 3 until further notice because of construction work on the Kashmir Chowk underpass.
Another major reason for the road closures and traffic diversions in the capital is the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Test series, with commuters warned to expect traffic jams during team movements.
However, traffic travelling from Kashmir Chowk towards Rawal Dam Chowk and Faizabad will continue to move as usual, according to the traffic police.
The restrictions also come as Islamabad prepares to host matches involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The first match is scheduled to take place at the Islamabad Club Cricket Oval from November 4 to 6.
A further match is scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from November 9 to 13.
Access to the Red Zone from the Serena Hotel side will also remain restricted while the teams are in Islamabad. Commuters have been warned to prepare for possible traffic congestion during the teams’ movements.
The Islamabad Traffic Police have advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
People travelling from Aabpara towards Rawal Dam Chowk and Park Road should use Garden Avenue and Shakarparian Road.
Traffic heading from Park Road and Faizabad towards Aabpara and Bhara Kahu should use Garden Avenue, Seventh Avenue and Srinagar Highway.
The Chief Traffic Officer has also advised citizens to leave home 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual. Traffic personnel will be deployed to guide commuters and help manage traffic.
The ITP will share further information through its FM 92.4 radio service and Islamabad Police’s social media pages.
Commuters have been advised to check the Islamabad Police website and official social media channels for the latest updates and route information to avoid inconvenience during the restrictions.
