The Sindh government has announced strict action against traffic law violations in Karachi, with Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon warning that motorists who break the rules will face penalties.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Tuesday, Memon said traffic laws were already in place and the government was taking steps to ensure they were properly enforced.
He said enforcement would be carried out under the supervision of the Additional Inspector General of Police.
The government is also establishing an authority comprising traffic officials to oversee traffic management, while work is under way to introduce a smart traffic system in the city.
Memon warned that action would be taken against vehicles fitted with unauthorised hooters or police lights, as well as private vehicles displaying fancy number plates.
He said motorists violating one-way traffic rules would also face strict action.
The minister further warned against displaying weapons in vehicles, saying such violations could lead to arrests.
He said both the security guard carrying or displaying a weapon and the vehicle owner would be arrested in such cases.
The proposed measures are part of the provincial government’s efforts to improve traffic management and ensure greater compliance with road safety regulations in Karachi.
