Good news for government employees holding MPhil degrees, as approval has been granted to provide a monthly allowance of Rs2,500 to employees holding degrees equivalent to an MPhil.
Government employees with MPhil degrees are already receiving a monthly allowance of Rs2,500. The allowance will take effect for employees with MPhil-equivalent degrees from July 17, 2026.
The Ministry of Finance has issued an official notification in this regard.
PMDC has issued new guidelines
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued new guidelines for students.
According to the rules, students must score at least 50 per cent in the MDCAT or pass an equivalent exam from abroad.
It has also been made necessary to pass the FSc Pre Medical or an equivalent exam with at least 60 per cent marks.
The PMDC public notice further says that students studying in foreign institutions have to follow these standards strictly. These students have to complete their online registration in order to be eligible for provisional registration and NRE.

New conditions for MDCAT entry test 2026
The PMDC previously announced new conditions regarding the MDCAT entry test, making the biometric verification of students compulsory in the entry test to be held this year.
In addition to this, the M&DC has instructed students below the age of 18 to make a Juvenile Registration Card or Smart Card for Minors issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) prior to the examination.
Candidates without a valid Juvenile Registration Card or a valid CNIC will not be allowed to participate in the entry test.
Before this, the PMDC announced a new passing criterion for the MDCAT examinations.
According to the notification issued by the department on April 8, the medical universities are allowed for a one-time reduction of passing marks up to 3 per cent for both the MBBS and BDS admissions.
