Russian President Vladimir Putin has reacted to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei’s death.
Putin has expressed his condolences to Iran’s Prime Minister Masoud Pezeshkian.
“Khamenei’s killing was a cynical murder, in violation of all standards of human morality and international law,” Russia’s TASS news agency quoted Putin as saying.
The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was martyred in the strikes by the US and Israel.
Iranian state media reported that Khamenei “was carrying out his assigned duties and was present at his workplace (his office)”.
“This cowardly attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning”, state media further stated.
Prior to this, the President of the US, Donald Trump, had said that Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei had been killed in strikes.
In addition to this, a 40-day-long public mourning was announced in Iran according to the state media reports, after the Supreme Leader’s martyrdom.
“We have lost a great leader, and we are mourning him,” a statement from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said.
The statement added, “a leader who was unique in terms of purity of spirit, strength of faith, resourcefulness in affairs, courage in the face of the arrogant, and jihad in the path of God.”
IRGC mourns Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, ‘vows revenge‘
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reacted to reports of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s martyrdom.
In a statement carried by Fars news agency, it said, “We have lost a great leader, and we mourn him.”
The statement said that Khamenei’s martyrdom at the hands of the most vicious terrorists and executioners of humanity is a sign of the legitimacy of this great leader and the acceptance of his sincere services.’
It also said that the “Iranian nation’s hand of revenge…will not let them go.”
The IRGC added that it will stand ‘firm in confronting domestic and foreign conspiracies.’
