Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour has said the problems that have built up over the past 13 years cannot be solved in just two and a half weeks. However, she said the KP governor and advisory council have taken several important steps in a short time.
Speaking on a private TV programme, Bilour said the government is working to improve governance, support the police and solve public problems.

What steps has the government taken?

Bilour said the government has provided vehicles to the police and increased financial support for the families of police personnel killed in the line of duty.
She said the government has also announced funds for dowries and scholarships for the daughters of police martyrs. The purpose of this step is to support the families financially.
She added that action has started against illegal encroachments. The government is also working to restore its authority in areas where its control has weakened.
Bilour said the government is working to improve governance and aims to show practical results in the next three to six months. She also said no one had discussed the creation of new provinces with her.

What are the plans for the health sector and affected districts?

Bilour said some provincial departments had problems with irregularities. She also described the health sector’s condition as poor and said reforms were needed.
She said people in 12 districts of KP had suffered because of terrorism. These areas also lack basic facilities.
The government plans to spend 70 per cent of the provincial budget in these 12 districts. Bilour said the purpose was to provide essential services to affected communities and reduce the problems they face.
Separately, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi chaired a meeting in Peshawar to review the inquiry report into the Dir Colony school incident on Wednesday.
Education Adviser Aamir Abdullah, Chief Secretary Dr Fakhr Alam Irfan, Education Secretary Inayatullah Waseem and members of the inquiry committee attended the meeting.
Kundi directed the authorities to consult the Law Department to review the legal aspects of the inquiry report.
He also called for strict action against those responsible for the Dir Colony school incident.
