Afghan military commander General Sami Sadat has extended warm Independence Day greetings to the people of Pakistan, while calling for closer cooperation between Pakistan and Afghan forces opposed to the Taliban.
In a message posted on X on August 14, Sadat congratulated Pakistanis on Independence Day and said lasting peace and regional stability required the elimination of terrorist networks.
He called on Pakistan’s security forces to support the Afghan United Front (AUF), describing it as part of a shared struggle against the Taliban regime and arguing that greater cooperation would contribute to the security of both nations.
“Lasting peace and regional stability require eliminating terror networks,” Sadat said, according to the message.
He further urged Pakistan and the Afghan United Front to work together against what he described as threats posed by the Taliban, linking such cooperation to broader efforts for peace and security in the region.
Earlier, Pakistan security forces responded swiftly and forcefully to an unprovoked attack by the Afghan Taliban on Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector, targeting several enemy positions and silencing enemy artillery, according to security sources.
The sources said the Afghan Taliban opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani border posts using heavy weapons, mortars and other arms, prompting an immediate and effective response from Pakistani forces.
Pakistani security forces targeted several Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions with artillery, as well as light and heavy weapons.
Security sources further stated that Pakistani forces maintained full control of the border areas and responded decisively to the enemy’s aggression. The intense retaliatory operation forced Afghan Taliban fighters to abandon several positions.
