The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all of the banks across the country will remain open only for two days next week.

According to the SBP, all kinds of banks and stock markets will remain open on May 25 (Monday) and May 29 (Friday).

The officials of the SBP said that, due to the official holidays of Eid-ul-Azha announced by the government of Pakistan, the State Bank itself, all of the Stock Exchange markets, and all other commercial banks will be open only for two days next week.

Under the directions of the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, the federal government released the notification of the Eid holidays starting from May 26 (Tuesday) till May 28 (Thursday) next week.

Banks and markets will remain entirely closed during these holidays as announced by the government.

According to the media reports, a four-day weekly working schedule is already in effect in the federal capital under the government’s austerity measures, making this Eid break a lengthy holiday period for government employees.

Federal government employees will receive public holidays for Eid from May 26 to May 28.

These vacations will be followed immediately by their regular weekend from May 29 to May 31, 2026, which will allow them to enjoy six consecutive days off.

On the other hand, employees in the private sector have urged the government to declare May 29 (Friday), the third day of Eid, as a public holiday as well, so that workers in private organisations can also enjoy a longer, uninterrupted break to celebrate Eid with their families.
