A US nuclear scientist, Andrew Hugg, was reportedly removed from the Pentagon on Tuesday after a secret video of his went viral online.
The video shows him allegedly sharing sensitive information with a woman posing as a journalist on X. The clip was uploaded by activist James O’Keefe.
In the recording, Hugg appears in an uncomfortable situation. He is seen discussing details about the US-Iran conflict. Reports say he may have been influenced by the journalist during the conversation.
At one point, he jokes and asks if she is a spy. He also comments on her appearance while speaking.
Hugg allegedly admits that early US attacks caused the deaths of children in Iran, calling them unintended. He also claims the US still has nerve agents and mentions the death of a US Army chemical expert after exposure.
When asked about nuclear weapons, he says the US will not bomb anyone. However, he adds that the US could act against Iran’s future leadership if policies do not change.
The Pentagon has not confirmed these claims. The US Army has also not verified the video.
After the video spread, reports said Hugg was escorted out of the Pentagon by security staff. He is now under investigation and has been placed on administrative leave.
Officials are reviewing how much sensitive information he may have shared.
Before this, Hugg led a key unit handling nuclear and chemical security in the US Army. He was responsible for safety and strategy related to major weapons.
His LinkedIn profile has been taken down. No formal charges have been filed so far.
