Section 144 enforced in Murree until May 31

Section 144 Murree

Authorities in Murree have imposed Section 144, specifically on the busy Mall Road and across the hill station on the eve of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays to ensure a peaceful and orderly environment and ease the flow of residents and tourists in and out of the town.

An official notification says the restrictions in Murree are effective from today till May 31.

During this period only tourist families can enter Mall Road, which is one of the busiest tourist destinations during the holidays.

There has also been a complete ban on hooliganism, public disorder and weapons, including display and use of fireworks in the area.

The administration has taken these steps to avoid bad incidents, heavy traffic and to ensure a peaceful environment as a huge number of visitors are expected to travel to Murree during the Eid holidays.

Security forces and law enforcement officials have been tasked to enforce the order.

At the same time, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 throughout the province for one week from May 27 – June 2, from the first day of Eid-ul-Adha, as per a private media outlet.

The provincial restrictions are centred around cleanliness, the environment and public safety during the festive season.

Burning animal heads, trotters and sacrificial waste in public areas is prohibited in the province-wide due to section 144.

In addition, river, canal, lake and dam swimming has been banned for safety reasons.

Further, outside official cattle markets, the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals have also been limited.

The government has called on people to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and be responsible for conducting Eid in a peaceful and safe manner.
