Goods seized during an anti-encroachment operation in Karachi have mysteriously disappeared from storage. It has been revealed that around 620 carts and more than 210 metal counters have been stolen from the warehouse, where the seized items had been kept for the past seven months. More alarmingly, the seized goods were allegedly resold to the same individuals who had set up the encroachments.
According to a complaint filed by the Assistant Commissioner of Aram Bagh Sub-Division with the Deputy Commissioner of South Karachi, around 620 carts and more than 210 metal counters were allegedly stolen from the facility.
The complaint stated that the seized goods had been stored there for the past seven months. It is further alleged that some of the confiscated items were unlawfully returned to the same individuals accused of setting up the encroachments.
On the other hand, during an anti-encroachment operation in Hussainabad, the district administration seized goods loaded onto six trucks. According to the authorities, the operation was carried out to restore footpaths for pedestrians and improve traffic flow in the area. On the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner Central, Municipal Commissioner Gulberg Hameer Ahmed, along with the Mukhtiarkar and district police, conducted the operation. The administration removed illegal encroachments from various areas of Hussainabad.
According to Municipal Commissioner Gulberg, residents and pedestrians had been facing difficulties due to the large number of encroachments in Hussainabad. In several areas, the footpaths had been completely occupied and rendered unusable. The administration said that removing the encroachments would restore pedestrian access to the footpaths and help improve the movement of traffic in the area.
During the operation, the administration seized goods loaded onto six large trucks. The seized items included handcarts, pushcarts, stalls, and other materials used for illegal encroachments. According to the authorities, all the seized goods were transported to the yard at 4K Chowrangi. The municipal administration said the main objective of the operation was to restore public roads and footpaths for citizens. It also clarified that action against illegal encroachments obstructing public passageways would continue in the future.
