ISLAMABAD: Senior anchors Najam Sethi and Iftikhar Ahmad have resigned from Samaa TV.
Sethi, a prominent political analyst, had been with the channel for two years and hosted the show Sethi Se Sawal. He confirmed his exit on X, thanking owner Aleem Khan and journalist Nadeem Malik for hosting Sethi Se Sawal . Sethi is now joining Dunya TV.
No official reason has been given. However, senior journalist Mansoor Ali Khan claims Najam Sethi resigned over salary issues. In a vlog, Mansoor said Samaa TV revised its salary structure, causing problems for senior staff.
The network has started deducting tax at the source. Employees saw reduced salaries this month without prior notice, he added.
Iftikhar Ahmad also left Samaa TV. His resignation came suddenly, following reports of his show’s shutdown and he has not announced his next move.
Mansoor Ali Khan also hinted at censorship as another reason behind the resignations.
This comes as TV media faces financial strain. Several channels have cut costs in recent months. Analysts say layoffs and salary cuts are now common.
