Pakistan Railways has suspended its revised train timetable and decided to restore the previous schedule from November 10 following complaints about delays in train arrivals and departures.
According to railway officials, a notification has been issued to reinstate the old timetable, which was replaced on October 15.
Officials said the revised schedule had been temporarily suspended because trains were experiencing delays due to engineering restrictions and signalling problems.
In a separate development, Pakistan Railways has directed private operators of outsourced trains to provide all eligible passengers with travel concessions in accordance with the department’s rules and relevant agreements.
Under the notification, private train operators must extend applicable fare discounts to journalists, senior citizens and persons with disabilities. They have also been instructed to honour railway employees’ travel passes, privilege ticket orders (PTOs) and other special travel benefits.
The department said eligible passengers must receive concessions in accordance with Pakistan Railways’ regulations and the terms of the relevant agreements.
Railway officials added that private operators had previously been issued several instructions regarding travel concessions. However, complaints continued to emerge that journalists, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and railway employees were being denied their entitled benefits.
The latest directives aim to ensure that eligible passengers receive the travel concessions and facilities provided under railway rules.
