LAHORE: National One Day International (ODI) team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has started rehabilitation  in Lahore after suffering from a knee injury while while fielding in the Big Bash League.

Shaheen Afridi suffered the injury during Brisbane’s narrow win over Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba. He was fielding at mid-on during the Strikers’ run chase.

Shaheen ran after a hard-hit shot and soon felt pain in his right knee and his movement became limited by the end of the over.

He left the field shortly after the doctors examined him and advised further treatment.

After talks with the PCB medical team, it was decided that Shaheen would return home.
His BBL campaign was ended early.

According to sources, Shaheen Afridi is undergoing rehab under the supervision of medical staff at the National Cricket Academy.

The young fast bowler’s rehab is likely to last for a week.

Shaheen Afridi will be allowed to bowl after the rehab is complete. The final decision of his return to BBL will be in the light of the medical reports.

The PCB had called Shaheen Afridi back from Australia keeping in mind ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka later this year.

Zaman Khan to replace Afridi

Brisbane Heat have named 24-year-old Zaman Khan as an International Replacement Player after clearance from the BBL Technical Committee.

He is available straight away and will face his former side, Sydney Thunder, at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon.

Zaman Khan played four matches for Sydney Thunder in BBL 13 and took eight wickets at an average of 16.38 and caught attention with his pace.

Since then, he has represented Pakistan in 10 T20Is and one ODI. At domestic and franchise level, he has built a strong profile.

He plays under Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy at Lahore Qalandars in the PSL. Recently, he featured in the Abu Dhabi T10, taking a hat-trick in his first match.

Apart from the PSL and BBL, Zaman Khan has also played in England’s The Hundred with Manchester Originals.
