In a press conference in Bangladesh, Shaheen Shah Afridi admitted that Pakistan is not happy with their performance in the red-ball format and hoped that they can turn things around during the new series that kicks off on May 8.
During a press meet in Dhaka, Afridi claimed that Pakistan had set its target of winning the series against South Africa but could not achieve the desired results.
He said continued improvement in Test cricket is key and that it would only be reflected in the One Day Internationals too.
The left-arm bowler emphasised that Pakistan’s bowlers were not lacking in quality with Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad in the squad.
He said he has no doubt the pace unit can perform under demanding situations.
However, Afridi also shared that the Bangladesh Tests preparations had been underway even while the Pakistan Super League was in session with players juggling between their franchise duty and red-ball preparations.
The squad has been focused on its preparations for the past week to be in its best shape, he added.
Afridi said that the message that is being conveyed inside the team is quite obvious: Pakistan needs to improve in Test cricket.
He cautioned the need to adjust to Bangladesh conditions, as Bangladesh will have home advantage. He also mentioned that there is still a long Test match season ahead.
“It’s very challenging to defeat any team in their own environment,” Afridi admitted “, It is tough for us to beat any team in their own environment.”
He has, however, expressed optimism that the team can perform well and do better in the series to come with proper preparation and team efforts.
