Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his special message on the occasion of ‘World Earth Day’, said that the natural resources of the Earth are indispensable for the existence and growth of human life.
He emphasised that the responsibility of protecting the Earth is not that of any single country, but rather it is the collective responsibility of all of humanity.
Challenges of Climate Change
The Prime Minister said that today our Earth is facing climate changes and environmental problems, due to which weather variations and the standard of living are being badly affected.
He said that Pakistan is prominent among the countries affected by climate changes, which demands that we further strengthen our resolve for the protection of our natural features.
Government Measures and Strategy
Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that the Government of Pakistan is taking numerous measures, including the promotion of ‘renewable energy’, to protect the environment and deal with climate extremity.
Emphasising the need for effective international cooperation and an environment-friendly collective strategy at the global level, he said that the Earth nurtures every kind of life, including flora and fauna, the protection of which is our foremost duty.
Earth Day is observed every year on 22nd April, the purpose of which is to create public awareness about environmental pollution, deforestation, and threats facing the Earth.
In recent years, Pakistan has faced serious environmental problems such as extraordinary floods, heat waves, and the melting of glaciers.
In this same context, the federal government, under the National Climate Change Policy, has given priority to projects such as green energy and tree plantation.
