The Sindh government has announced today that there will be a public holiday on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Sindh holiday 2026
The holiday will mark 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH. It will apply across Sindh to provincial government offices and other bodies working under the provincial government.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, the decision was made in line with the Cabinet Division’s notification issued on August 21.
Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah issued the notification. Essential services will not be affected by the holiday. They will continue to operate to ensure that important public services remain available.
Rabi-ul-Awwal moon
The announcement comes after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon was not sighted earlier this month.
August 15 was therefore observed as the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH, making August 26 the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
Public holiday on August 26
Earlier, the federal government on Friday announced that August 26 will be a public holiday on the occasion of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH).
As per details, the Cabinet Division has issued a notification declaring Wednesday, August 26, a public holiday across the country after approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Previously, the Sindh government declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a public holiday across the province. The holiday will be celebrated to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
As per the official notification, government and semi-government offices remained closed on the holiday. Regular office work did not take place.
The holiday also applied to offices of corporations and local councils across Sindh. Their routine activities remained suspended for the day.
The government said the holiday is meant to allow people to observe the national day. However, offices and institutions that provide essential public services continued to work.
