The federal government on Friday announced that August 26 will be a public holiday on the occasion of 12th Rabi ul Awal, Eid Milad un Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him).
As per details, the Cabinet Division has issued a notification declaring Wednesday, August 26, a public holiday across the country after approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal holiday in Pakistan 2026 falls on Wednesday, August 26, following the announcement that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon was not sighted in Pakistan earlier.
Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad announced on Thursday that Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) will be observed on August 26, 2026. The announcement came after a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee in Islamabad.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 1 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH began on August 15 (Saturday). Representatives of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Ministry of Science and Technology and other relevant institutions also participated in the moon-sighting process.

The Cabinet Division’s 2026 public holidays calendar lists August 26 as the date for Eid Milad-un-Nabi, while the final Islamic date was confirmed following the moon-sighting process.
12 Rabi-ul-Awwal
The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal holds special religious significance for Muslims. Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) is celebrated across the country on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal with great devotion and reverence.
On this occasion, Milad-un-Nabi gatherings, Quran recitations, Naat recitations, and Durood-o-Salaam would be organised in mosques and other places. Homes, mosques and streets are also beautifully decorated to mark the occasion.
Religious scholars urge Muslims to follow the teachings, morals, and noble character of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). They emphasise that the true message of Miladun Nabi (PBUH) is to embrace the Sunnah and follow the exemplary life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
