Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has once again come under criticism for violating its commitment not to use Imran Khan’s medical information for political purposes.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has once again come under criticism for violating its commitment not to use Imran Khan’s medical information for political purposes.

Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, held a press conference in Islamabad after the former prime minister was taken to hospital for a medical examination in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives. Dr Uzma was also present during the examination.

The development has raised questions over PTI’s decision to discuss Imran Khan’s medical examination publicly despite the Supreme Court’s clear directions regarding the use of his health information.

The Supreme Court had specifically directed that medical reports or information concerning Imran Khan’s health should not be used as a political tool for gaining any advantage.

According to the court’s order, the prisoner, or anyone associated with Imran Khan in any capacity, shall not use his medical reports or health information for political benefit.

The order also provides a legal mechanism for addressing any complaints regarding its implementation. If the government or any relevant official has concerns about the misuse of facilities granted under the order, they can approach the Supreme Court through an appropriate application.

Similarly, Imran Khan or his family members can also approach the Supreme Court if they have any complaint regarding the implementation of the order.

The remarks made during the press conference could therefore become a matter before the Supreme Court, particularly if they are viewed as a violation of commitments given to the court.

The situation could also raise the issue of contempt of court if the Supreme Court determines that its directions or an undertaking given before it were breached.

PTI, instead of holding a press conference over the matter, also had the option of approaching the Supreme Court if it has any complaint regarding Imran Khan’s medical examination or the implementation of the court’s order.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was moved back to Adiala jail after undergoing a medical examination at PIMS Islamabad.

Imran Khan was taken to the hospital from Adiala jail around midnight on August 21 under heavy security, according to media reports.
