Six militants were killed and two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched the operation in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij.

The statement said security forces effectively targeted a hideout of what it described as Indian-sponsored militants, killing six of them during the operation.

During an intense exchange of fire, Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, from Gujrat, and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, 30, from Talagang, were martyred while fighting bravely, the ISPR said.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the militants killed during the operation.

According to the military’s media wing, the militants had been involved in multiple terrorist activities targeting security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as the killing of innocent civilians.

A sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the statement added.

The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counterterrorism campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

It added that the sacrifices of the two soldiers would further strengthen the resolve of security forces to combat terrorism.
