Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received clearance to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Pakistan for the first time.
A delegation led by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director inspected the aircraft at Oslo Airport and approved it for operation. The second Boeing 787 will be inspected at Oslo Airport on Monday, while the third aircraft is scheduled for inspection at London Airport in November.
PIA will operate its first Boeing 787 flight on October 31. Flight PK-786 will depart from London for Islamabad and is expected to arrive on November 1. The airline will also introduce new staff uniforms on the same day.
The national flag carrier has chosen fashion designer HSY’s uniform designs as the new face of PIA. The designs were chosen after a competitive showcase in Karachi from collections of Maheen Khan, Deepak and Fahad, Generation, Ismail Farid, Munib Nawaz, Deepak Perwani, Faraz Manan, Amir Adnan and Nomi Ansari. whose uniform designs have been used by PIA for the last 12 years.
How good is Boeing 787 for PIA?
The three Boeing 787 aircraft are expected to help PIA expand its international operations. The Dreamliner is known for its fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and ability to cover long distances.
The aircraft uses around 20 per cent less fuel than older, comparable wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 767. This is largely due to its lightweight carbon-fibre structure and modern engines.
