The District Administration of Islamabad has announced the establishment of six designated sacrificial animal markets across the federal capital in respect of the forthcoming event of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to officials, the markets will be set up at Zia Masjid, I-12, Bara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, Sultana Foundation, Sangjani, and Japan Road. The process of setting up these cattle markets will commence on May 10.
The administration said the step has been taken to facilitate citizens and ensure organised arrangements for the buying and selling of sacrificial animals ahead of the religious festival.
The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has instructed the relevant departments to complete arrangements for parking, sanitation, security, and other facilities. According to the DC Islamabad, complaints regarding charges exceeding the notified rates in the markets will be addressed immediately.
The district administration has also directed that a magistrate will be present at all times in each cattle market to ensure proper supervision of administrative matters.
The DC Islamabad has further directed the formulation of a special traffic management plan in coordination with the traffic police to maintain the smooth flow of traffic on highways adjacent to the markets.
According to the administration, the sale and purchase of animals will be strictly prohibited anywhere in the city except in the designated cattle markets.
Highest bid
It is worth mentioning here that the highest bid came for the Sector I-12/1 market, which was auctioned for Rs 200.1 million. Other major auctions include Sangiani at Rs 62.5 million, Zia Masjid at Rs 50 million, Sultana Foundation at Rs 25 million, Japan Road at Rs 6.2 million, and Bhara Kahu at Rs 6.1 million.
Officials describe the development as a significant step toward organised and transparent management of sacrificial animal markets in the capital.
This represents an increase of approximately 120 per cent compared to last year’s auction of temporary cattle markets. A total of 104 bidders participated in the auction process.
DMA teams maintain continuous surveillance
To prevent the establishment of illegal cattle markets in the city, the relevant DMA teams are maintaining continuous surveillance in various areas.
It is worth mentioning here that last year, 2025 govt had established sacrificial animals markets at various designated locations in the federal capital, including Sangjani, Sector I-15, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, and the Islamabad Expressway.
The market had been established over 1,000 kanals and divided into blocks for better management. Special attention had been given to ensuring the availability of water, electricity, and proper security arrangements. Each trader had allocated 150 to 200 square feet of space to conduct business in an organised manner.
Prices of cows, goats, sheep, and other animals available in the market are higher. The price of a goat ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 350,000, depending on its characteristics.
