The Holy month of Ramazan is just around the corner, and prices of food items and essential commodities have surged sharply in the open market, adding to the financial strain on consumers.” Fruits, vegetables, pulses, meat and dairy products have all recorded noticeable price hikes in recent days.
A survey revealed that edible oil, ghee, gram flour, tomatoes, potatoes, bread, eggs, bananas, apples, and other basic food items have all seen sharp price hikes. Consumers report that the sudden surge has made it difficult to manage routine expenses ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
Current prices of food items, essential commodities
Besan is being sold at Rs 410 per kilogram, while dates, a staple during Ramazan, are available at prices ranging from Rs 550 to as high as Rs 1,600 per kilogram, depending on quality. Red flour is priced at Rs 150 per kg and white flour at Rs 170 per kg.
Among pulses, white gram is selling at Rs 420 per kg, red beans at Rs 400 per kg, lentils at Rs 380 per kg, and lentil mash at Rs 550 per kg. Rice prices have climbed to Rs 400 per kilogram.
Meat and poultry prices
Meat and poultry prices have also increased. Chicken meat is available at Rs 650 per kg, eggs at Rs 315 per dozen, mutton (small meat) at Rs 2,400 per kg, and beef at Rs 1,400 per kg. Milk is being sold at Rs 220 per litre, while ghee is priced at Rs 240 per unit.
Fruits and vegetables prices
Fruit prices have also seen a sharp rise. Apples are selling between Rs 200 and Rs 400 per kg, guava at Rs 200 per kg, pomegranate at Rs 650 per kg, grapes between Rs 400 and Rs 600 per kg, and papaya at Rs 360 per kg.
Oranges are priced between Rs 200 and Rs 300 per dozen, bananas at Rs 160 to Rs 200 per dozen, coconuts at Rs 470 per piece, and shabri dates at Rs 700 per kg.
Vegetable prices are also on the higher side. New potatoes are available at Rs 50 per kg, onions at Rs 60, tomatoes at Rs 100, cabbage at Rs 60, and carrots and radish at Rs 50 per kg. Okra is selling at Rs 260 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs 130, capsicum at Rs 150, garlic between Rs 250 and Rs 350, lemon at Rs 100, arvi at Rs 150 per kg, and arugula at Rs 350 to Rs 400 per kg.
