MANALI: The tourism sector is facing heat in India after a scandalous snow scam in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, which leaked into the news this week.
Local guides have been accused of fraudulently creating a skiing experience by sprinkling a small piece of fake snow on dry ground.
This pitiable strip was then sold by them as an excellent winter resort to unsuspecting families and tourists.
The two realities on the ground provoked instant wrath among visitors. In a viral video, the tourists attempt to ski down a filthy, small area of slush amidst bare rocks.
Statistics show that the video has already raked in more than 11.7 million views, and several victims have testified to having been overcharged to have the experience.
Opponents note that an absence of integrity in the local tourism industry is revealed in this incident. Operators, instead of telling the truth about dry weather, took advantage of visitors to exploit them.
Thus, furious travellers are currently demanding tougher laws to prevent such unethical behaviors.
In the end, this desperate act of fake snow has made a lasting mark on the country.
