South Air Pak unveils major expansion in domestic air connectivity

South Air Pak has unveiled a new operational network linking Karachi with major cities across Balochistan, including Gwadar, Turbat, and Quetta, in a move aimed at strengthening domestic air connectivity in Pakistan’s southwest region.

The expansion is being seen as a significant development for regional mobility, with improved access expected between the country’s commercial hub and key destinations in Balochistan.

According to the airline management, the first proving flight will take place on May 25, 2026, on the Karachi–Gwadar–Karachi route. This test operation is intended to validate operational readiness, route feasibility, and ground handling coordination ahead of full commercial services.

The carrier plans to introduce an initial network comprising three key routes: Karachi to Gwadar, Karachi to Turbat, and Karachi to Quetta, aimed at strengthening passenger and logistical access to Balochistan, a region historically underserved by frequent air links.

For the initial phase of operations, South Air Pak will deploy two newly inducted ATR turboprop aircraft, acquired through a wet lease arrangement from international lessors. The aircraft type is well-suited for short-haul regional routes, particularly those with lower passenger demand and challenging airport infrastructure.

Commercial services are expected to begin in the first week of June 2026, following the completion of proving flights and regulatory clearances.

Aviation observers note that the expansion could improve connectivity for both business and tourism travel, especially to Gwadar, which continues to develop as a strategic coastal hub under ongoing infrastructure development projects.
