Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain has raised questions over the BBC’s coverage of Pakistan, claiming that 77% of its stories related to Pakistan do not carry bylines, describing the issue as more than just a matter of transparency.
In a program, Hussain also claimed that none of the Pakistani sources cited in stories by BBC journalist Azizullah Khan was quoted. He further alleged that the BBC’s coverage of Pakistan has been disproportionately negative compared with its reporting on Pakistan-related issues internationally.
“The stories that the BBC has published about Pakistan have a ratio of negative six to negative twenty-four compared with the stories about Pakistan published by media outlets around the world. The two most important topics on which balanced reporting is needed’ he added.
He emphasised that the two most important topics require balanced reporting. “This is not about reporting alone; balanced reporting is needed, and the BBC seems to be targeting you there,” he said. “Believe me, after landing in Washington, I will need an NOC there to carry out reporting,” he added.
