WEB DESK: A helicopter crash took place on Thursday on Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), five people have been killed in the incident.
The local media have reported that the aircraft was on a medical rescue mission when it crashed on mountain’s Barafu camp.
Those who were killed include a Zimbabwean pilot, a Tanzanian doctor, and a local guide.
And also the two tourists from the Czech Republic.
Tanzanian CAA said in a statement that while conducting a rescue operation, the helicopter lost its balance and crashed into the Barafu camps on the mountain.
The crash took place at an altitude of 4,700 metres (15,400 ft). The area lies between Barafu and Kibo camps, often used by climbers to reach the summit.
Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, is approximately 6,000 metres (19,685 ft) above sea level.
Around 50,000 tourists climb Kilimanjaro every year.
Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
