“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is back again, along with the style and glamour of the original film, while also reflecting on how the media world has changed, its cast and creators said at the European premiere in London on Wednesday.

The much-awaited sequel has come about 20 years after “The Devil Wears Prada,” which became a classic. Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna have returned for the new film.
The story follows Andy Sachs, who has been played by Anne Hathaway. The character loses her job in investigative journalism and reconnects with her former boss, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Priestley’s magazine “Runway” is also facing problems due to the rise of digital media and the decline of print.
“It sort of underwrites all the flash and fun and music and the uncertainty of this current moment,” said Streep.
“The media landscape, but in every form of business, life, music, art, movies, pick a thing, we’re all being undermined. That’s where the movie kind of starts, and it goes from there to see what these characters do with that new landscape.”
Orignal story
The first film was based on a novel by Lauren Weisberger. However, this sequel has an original story.
“Everybody’s facing challenges, economic challenges. And so it felt like thematically, it’d be something that would interest people,” said McKenna.
She added that writing the film was challenging. But she tried to enjoy the process and reconnect with the characters.

Anna Hathaway’s one condition
Hathaway said it felt special to work again with the original team. She had only one condition for returning.
“I just said that I thought Andy hadn’t started the family portion of her life, if that ever happened for her. That was my one condition,” she said.
Streep joked that she had many conditions, including “no heels over four inches”.
Stanley Tucci returns as Nigel in the movie. Additionally, Emily Blunt’s character Emily now holds a powerful position in the fashion industry.
New faces of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’
New cast members include Lucy Liu, Kenneth Branagh, and Simone Ashley. The film also features appearances by Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace. It was filmed in New York and Milan.
Some scenes involved improvisation, which made actors laugh and caused delays in filming. Blunt said she and Justin Theroux often could not continue scenes because they were laughing.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be released worldwide on April 29. It has a runtime of approximately 119 to 122 minutes, which is just under or around 2 hours.
