Traffic campaign ends, zero tolerance policy begins from today

All licensing services to remain suspended at Shakarparian traffic office tomorrow

Following the conclusion of a province-wide awareness campaign on traffic laws, regular enforcement has officially begun across Punjab from today.

On the directives of DIG Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, strict action against violations has been initiated.

According to a spokesperson, an extensive awareness campaign was carried out over the past two weeks across the province, including in major cities.

In Lahore, Rahbar squads and safety camps were also set up. During this period, citizens were educated about traffic laws through social media and all other communication platforms.

The campaign particularly focused on promoting lane discipline, the use of helmets and seat belts, and awareness about violations such as one-way driving and other traffic rules.

DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir stated that from today, a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced across the province against traffic violations.

He further emphasised that uniform implementation of the law will be ensured at all costs to achieve a safer Punjab.

He also urged citizens to follow traffic rules so they can avoid fines and ensure the safety of their own lives as well as others.

In a separate development, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a digital facility to speed up and make the procedure for obtaining a driving licence more convenient for the citizens.

The issuing process for learner licences for LTV and HTV transport vehicles has been fully digitised.

The system enables applicants to fill their applications online from home. It has been developed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board with administrative support of the Transport Director and the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

The service is available on the Dastak mobile application.

The citizens can download the app and enter their details and make the necessary payment online. After digital verification, the learner licence is issued in a short amount of time.

Officials said more services would in future be moved to the internet to promote e-governance and to reduce delays.

The initiative would aim to eliminate long queues and make legal procedures easier for the public.
