Michael shatters records with biggest biopic debut

Michael Jackson the King of Pop is back from the dead and is dominating the big screen as his biopic Michael has delivered a record-breaking opening. The movie has earned a $314 million worldwide.

The highly anticipated biopic “Michael”, based on the life of Michael Jackson made $97 million dollars just from the US markets.

Internationally after its release on April 24, the movie made $217 million according to industry reports.  

A new benchmark has been set by the film as it has achieved the biggest opening ever for a biopic. The previous record was held by Straight Outta Compton.

The strong performance of the film has also made it the second-biggest debut of the year 2026. It lags just behind the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The film is written by John Logan and is directed by Antoine Fuqua. Michael Jackson in the film is played by Jaafar Jackson who is the nephew of Michael Jackson.

The young Michael Jackson is played by Juliano Krue Valdi. The strict patriarch of Jackson family Joe Jackson was played by Colman Domingo who managed the Jackson family.  

Katherine Jackson was played by Nia Long. Other supporting cast members include Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Mike Myers in key roles.

The movie has been developed with the support of Jackson family. The purpose of the film is to explore the legacy and life of the greatest music icon who died in 2009 at the age of 50.

The two biopics that have made the biggest records are Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic of the band Queen which made $910 million at the global box office and Oppenheimer which made a record of $975 million dollars at the global box office.
