US Vice President JD Vance said President Donald Trump is pursuing a comprehensive deal with Iran, not a limited agreement.
Speaking in Georgia, Vance linked the ongoing talks to a fragile ceasefire that has held for nearly a week. He said Washington wants a broader understanding with Tehran.
He made it clear Trump is not interested in a “small deal”. Instead, the US is offering economic normalisation if Iran behaves like a “normal country”.
Talks held in Islamabad over the weekend failed to produce a breakthrough. The negotiations are part of wider efforts to end the recent US-Israel offensive against Iran.
The conflict, which began on February 28, left more than 3,300 people dead, mostly civilians in Iran and Lebanon. A fragile ceasefire was reached last week.
Vance said a final agreement remains elusive due to Washington’s strict stance on Iran’s nuclear programme. The US insists Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
The US and Israel accuse Tehran of pursuing nuclear and missile capabilities that threaten the region. Iran denies the claims and maintains its programme is peaceful.
Despite tensions, Vance said negotiations will continue. He expressed hope that a deal would benefit global stability.
He also acknowledged deep mistrust between the two sides. However, he said both parties appear willing to keep talks alive.
