President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is reviewing a new proposal from Iran aimed at ending the war, after Tehran sent the plan to Pakistan to pass it on to the United States.
“I’ll let you know about it later,” Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One, adding that officials would soon share the exact wording of the proposal with him.
Iranian media outlets Tasnim and Fars reported that Tehran has sent a 14-point proposal through Pakistan in response to a nine-point plan from Washington.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that Iran delivered the proposal to Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator between the two countries. He said Iran aims to permanently end what it calls an “imposed war.”
Gharibabadi also briefed foreign ambassadors in Tehran about the proposal during a meeting on Saturday. He said Iran supports diplomacy based on its national interests and has done its part to resolve the conflict.
At the same time, he warned that Iran remains ready to respond strongly to any aggression against its people or territory.
“The ball is now in the US court,” he said, urging Washington to choose between diplomacy and continued confrontation.
He added that Iran is prepared for both options but will remain cautious and distrustful of the United States due to past actions.
